Yup, it's our website, and damn we read a lot of romance books. So naturally, there are those books we just can't wait to tell you about. Here are the books, we think you really ought to run out and buy. And hey, it's our opinion.

The books we're pimping this week are....

Find Me

by Debra Webb
Publisher: St. Martin's Paperbacks
Release Date: December 30, 2008

Marisa says this taught romantic suspense kept her guessing until the end. The people of Youngstown Maine have a killer on the loose and even though this God-fearing, tight knit community thinks they live in a town that resembles Andy Griffith’s Mayberry, they soon find out the killer has to be one of their own. Underneath the ‘ah shucks’ attitude is a town filled with secrets, lies and danger. The heroine is a unique combination of intelligence and vulnerability with a take no prisoners attitude and it’s up to her to find out who the killer is before another girl goes missing. Don’t miss this one.

Full Exposure

OVERHEARD CONVERSATION

At the Bus Stop

Maria:
New Year, new books, new TV shows, new movies, new music.
Marisa:
mutter, mutter, mutter
Maria:
What's all the muttering about?
Marisa:
I'm trying to figure out how to add five more hours to my day.
Maria:
Why?
Marisa:
So I can catch up with last year.
Maria:
But it's a New Year.
Marisa:
Yeah, but whatever book, movie, TV show or music I didn't get to last year is still new to me.

In Restaurant

Marisa: If you keep staring at those people, they're going to invite you to eat with them.
Maria: I can't help it.
Marisa: Really, you could exercise some self control.
Maria: Seriously. I can't help it. I just heard that woman order a plate of 'doom' and a side of 'gloom'.
Marisa
: That's probably because she's on a steady diet of news.

In the Office
Marisa: What are you doing?
Maria:
Starring.
Marisa:
Starring at what?
Maria:
My mind.
Marisa:
You can do that?
Maria:
Oh yes, when I'm looking for something, I stare at my mind.
Marisa:
What are you looking for?
Maria:
The answer.
Marisa:
I hope you have no place to go in a hurry.

Reading and Multi-tasking?

When I get the chance to read - I savor the moment. I read almost anywhere and anytime I get a chance. If I'm travelling, I always bring a book with me. If I going to a meeting, yes, there's a book in my bag. If I'm waiting for someone, I'll whip out a book instead of pacing and checking my watch twelve thousand times. Of course my most treasured times are the times I just get to sit in my comfy chair and just read with no interruptions. (more)

News and some Opinions...

Random House Diversifies

Random House Children's Books purchased Tamarind, an independent publisher of illustrated books featuring ethnically diverse characters. Verna Wilkins began the company in 1987. She stated in an article in thebookseller.com that when her children were small they believed that only white children could be featured in children's books. She wanted to produce high quality books featuring children from all backgrounds in universal situations.

Here's hoping that the Random House purchase will give these books the wider audience they deserve.

Fond Farewells

After 73 years in business America's most famous French bookstore is closing. Located in the heart of Rockefeller center in New York City, the bookstore has been visited by millions of tourist from all over the world throughout the years. So if it's so famous why is it closing. Their rent is being raised, from 360,000 to one million a year. Really, who could sell that many books. So, what - they're planning on opening a McDonald's? Great, just what we need another place to put the pounds on our bodies and not our minds. I say a fond farewell to the Librairie de France.

After 80 years in existence The Gotham Book Mark in New York City closed in 2007. It was a home to writers like Arthur Miller and John Updike. It's customers included Charlie Chaplin and Katherine Hepburn. The closing of any bookstore is a sad business, but there is a happy ending to this saga. A collection of about 200,000 titles from the Book Mart have found a new home at the University of Pennsylvania.

Top Romance Books 2008
By Kati Dancy

As I said before, 2008 was an amazing year for reading. I know, speaking for myself that reading Joanna Bourne’s The Spymaster’s Lady in January of this year kicked off a three week reading slump where I couldn’t even bring myself to read the back of a cereal box. But it picked up after that and I read SO many terrific books. Our reviewers chose our favorite books, and you all narrowed the list to help us award the First Annual RNTV Reviewer’s Choice Awards.. Book Review: Warrior of the Highlands by Veronica Wolff

Reviewed by PJ Ausdenmore
Publisher: Penguin
4.75 stars

Haley Fitzpatrick, the baby and only daughter of the testosterone-laden Fitzpatrick clan, is a thoroughly modern woman with a passion for seventeenth-century Scottish weapons. While doing research for her dissertation, the Harvard grad student is startled to discover an ancient sketch of a Scottish warrior and a woman who looks exactly like Haley, right down to the jagged scar on her neck. Unaware that her life is about to be irrevocably changed she reaches out to touch the sketch and feels herself falling. Alasdair MacColla is a huge, fierce, bloodthirsty warrior. He’s trying to rescue his sister from the despised Campbells when a woman in strange clothing suddenly materializes in front of him. (more)

Book Review: Tempt the Devil by Anna Campbell

Reviewed by Marisa O’Neill
Publisher: Avon
Grade: 5 stars

Every once in a while you read a book that transports you. After reading TEMPT THE DEVIL I was transported, but I also had a period of mourning. It was hard for me to read another book because this one stayed with me long after I closed the last page. The prose, the characters, the dialogue, the ambiance is magic woven together in a seamless and masterful way. Anna Campbell is a virtuoso with words - and the words come together bringing incandescent and vivid images that create a sumptuous world that keeps you feasting for hours. (more)

Book Review: Lone Star Woman by Sadie Callahan

Reviewed by Andrea Williamson
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
4.75 stars

Lone Star Woman is the debut book by Sadie Callahan, but she is no stranger to romance fiction. Some of you may know her as Anna Jeffrey and also half of the amazingly funny Dixie Cash. Whatever you want to call her, she is definitely a gifted author.

As the only child of a wealthy ranch owner and businessman, Judith Ann Strayhorn has always been fortunate enough to enjoy the best things in life. (more)
